If you don’t suffer yourself, you will almost certainly know at least one person who has a phobia of some description.
A phobia is defined as “a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it.” There are phobias of just about everything. This includes Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) and Claustrophobia (fear of small spaces) and there’s a good chance you know someone who isn’t keen at least one of these.
The Fear of Flying
Another fear which millions of people suffer from across the globe is the fear of flying. In a world where air travel is becoming increasingly important, this is obviously a huge issue.
It is also one of the trickiest to wrap your head around because it is both rational and partially irrational. For example, there is no getting around the fact that people have and will die in plane crashes. However, Fly Fright suggests that there is just a 1 in 11 million chance of someone experiencing an aeroplane accident. On top of this, it says that 96% of passengers in accidents survive. Because these stats make flying incredibly safe, they almost make a fear of flying irrational.
Rational or irrational, there are still plenty of people who need help with their fear of flying. Thankfully, Silverdoor has created this infographic called ‘15 Ways To Overcome Your Fear of Flying’ to do just that. So, whether you suffer from a fear of flying or are just occasionally uneasy about it, take a look below and put yourself at ease.
