Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps

Image
Looking for an easy, light lunch to make during the week! Look no further! These Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps are my favorite quick & healthy lunch! Made with canned chicken, olive oil mayo, grapes, cucumbers, carrots and romaine lettuce. These wraps are super low carb and totally delicious! Make it with me. Growing up (and even still today) I lived on Chicken Salad! It was my very favorite flavor of sandwich! I always took them in my sack lunch to school. I was raised on canned chicken, so I've never looked at it as weird. I know some people are timid when it comes to canned chicken but you shouldn't be!  It's a great, easy source of protein! I have to dedicate this recipe to my little cousin Oakley. She is 7 and she has so much personality. She catches on very quick and is very aware of the world around her. One day, I asked her what she wanted for lunch. She told me that she doesn't eat Carbs. I had to laugh because I'm sure she's heard ...

How to Change Your Current Lifestyle to a Healthy One

Image
Changing your lifestyle, to move to healthy habits instead of digging your grave with your teeth, fits this analogy perfectly; like Superman, you can save a life - yours. How much time you can take and how many years you can add depend on when you start, but it's never too late to begin. To make changes successfully, without the impetus of a life-threatening illness, do what you did when you learned to walk - take baby steps. Just like learning to walk, making small, permanent changes in your habits will move you from your poor eating habits and couch-potato ways. If you have the time, you will eventually become a healthy, vibrant person without stressing out about it, and not look back. If you have the impetus of a life-threatening illness, you'll make the changes faster and more painfully, but make them you will, given the alternative. Here are some suggestions to start you on your path to a healthy you: Educate Yourself This may sound simple, but it's not; everybody in t...

Tips Toward Healthy Living for College Students

Image
Eat Smart The first step toward a healthy living while attending college is to eat smarter for physical and mental performance. Learning the basic principles of nutrition and what food has will help steer you to eating smarter. Foods contain three basic macro-nutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Healthy sources of protein are chicken and eggs; healthy sources of carbohydrates are fruits and vegetables; healthy sources of fats are peanut butter and olive oil. Although campus cafeterias can make it hard to eat smarter with all-you-can-eat options and social eating with friends, students can use their knowledge of basic nutrition to take advantage of eating on campus by filling up their plates with lots of vegetables, choosing those healthier sources of protein, and portion-control on the unlimited slices of pizza. Most college campus cafeterias have low-fat food options, salad bars, and even will take off the bun of a burger if asked. Avoid vending machines on campus as they have ...

Sushi Is Actually Not As Healthy As You Thought! Here’s Why

Image
It’s true that Japanese cuisine is among the world’s healthiest, and its most popular delicacy, sushi, has been described many times as a great health food. But, because of its immense popularity, sushi has been “westernized” to fit the palate and preferences of people in the western world. It has been added with delicious, but unhealthy, ingredients like cream cheese. Not to mention, sushi is now being mass produced and sold in supermarkets everywhere. As you can expect, most of these no longer contain the health benefits of high-standard (and expensive) sushi that you can buy in first-class Japanese restaurants. Sushi loads up on calories and carbs If you think that you’re speeding up your weight loss efforts with this favorite Japanese food , think again. One sushi roll has 300 to 350 calories. And it’s not as if you’re going to eat only one. A typical sushi pack contains two to three rolls. That’s a total of 1,050 calories. Obviously, it’s not as low-calorie as you expect. Con...

Scientists Find People Who Are Closer To Their Grandparents Are Happier In Life

Image
A remarkable American study at Bringham Young University finds that grandparents are very important with respect to the role they play in their grandchildren’s lives. The report makes it clear that they play a key role in the happiness of their grandchildren. Author Jeremy Yorgasun, assistant professor in The School of Family Life , says: “The emotional relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren can significantly affect the children’s academic, psychological, and social development. Grandparents matter above and beyond parents, they are an important resource.” A total of 408 fifth grade children were asked a variety of questions about their relationships with their grandparents. These questions were designed to measure how close they were to each other, among other things. The children were asked questions on a number of topics; for example, their likelihood to seek advice or support from their grandparent. To create a comparison, the questions were followed up...
