They say that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” but ladies, the only thing that the following jewellery will do is put you out of pocket. Flawless coloured diamonds are extremely rare and valuable, the reason for which private collectors will pay top dollar for them. Find out how much with the world’s top 5 most expensive jewellery!
Heart of the Ocean Diamond – $20 million
The Heart of the Ocean Diamond necklace comprises an exact imitation of the Heart of the Ocean piece (Coeur de la Mer) from the 1997 hit film “Titanic”. It features a 15-carat blue diamond and was created by jeweller Harry Winston. The necklace was the most expensive piece ever to be worn at the 1998 Academy Awards, an honour bestowed upon Gloria Stuart who played elderly Rose in the film.
At $20 million, the Heart of the Ocean Diamond comprises the world’s 5th top most expensive jewellery, although there are replicas selling for a more “attainable” price of $3.5 million at auction.
The Perfect Pink – $23.2 million
The Perfect Pink comprises a rare 14.23-carat, Fancy Intense Pink rectangular-cut diamond. It was auctioned at Christie’s Hong Kong saleroom where it was purchased by an anonymous bidder for a staggering $23.2 million, making it the most expensive jewel ever sold at auction in Asia. The Perfect Pink is flanked on either side by rectangular-shaped D flawless diamonds weighing 1.73 carats and 1.67 carats respectively. All three diamonds are mounted on an 18k rose and white gold ring.
It sold for more than anticipated due to its perfect colouring, type IIa classification and weight given that fewer than 10% of pink diamonds weigh over 0.20 carats.
Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond $24.3 million
The Wittelsbach-Graff comprises a 35.56-carat Fancy Deep Blue diamond. Apparently, it originated from the mines of the Indian Kingdom of Golkonda and was purchased by King Philip IV of Spain as part of his daughter’s dowry in 1664. TheWittelsbach-Graff diamond was bought by Laurence Graff in 2008 for $24.3 million who consequently had it cut by three diamond cutters to remove flaws.
The new 4-carats lighter diamond was then renamed the Wittelsbach-Graff.
